Amos was born early in the 19th century in Missouri, USA. This could have been as early as 1806. 3 But another source suggests he was born as late as 1811. 2

He married Kararaina about 1840 in Auckland, New Zealand.

Kirikohe or “Kiri” was born about 1845 in Waikare, though some references cite about 1860. She married Retimana Hakaraia Te Heke in 1868 in his home town of Auckland. Retimana was born on June 18, 1867 and was about 23 years Kiri’s senior. Together they had son Heemi Reti in 1867, son Rapata Reti in 1877, daughter Ohinawa Reti in 1878, son Niko Reti in 1880, daughter Waihoroi Ani Reti in 1882, son Te Rīwhi Reti in 1883, son Henare Reti in 1885, son Whao Reti in 1889, daughter Ngahuia Reti in 1891, son Ohinawa Reti in 1991, son Te Kohatu Reti in 1893, son Hoori Ngatai Reti in 1896, and son Tanumi Daniel Reti in 1899. All records of her children’s births with birthplace information list Waikare. Kiri died abour 1915 and was buried in Ngunguru.
Ripeka was born about 1850 in Ngunguru, Te Tai Tokerau.
Hōri was born about 1854 in Russel. Hōri married Rihi Paea in 1878. Together they had daughter Tihoi “Grace” Te Kiri Paraone/Brown (nee. Amos) in 1880, daughter Raiha Mackie (nee. Amos) about 1881, daughter Arani Mahanga (nee. Amos) in 1881, son Whare Kimete Amos about 1886 in Ngunguru, son Hōri Amos in 1887, and daughter Pera Amos in 1890. Hōri died about 1894 in Ngunguru.

Later Life

October 15, 1893 at about age 86, Amos passed away at Costley’s Home for the Aged Poor in Epsom, Auckland. He was buried in an unmarked plot, Anglican Division M Row 4 Plot 1, at Waikumete Cemetery & Crematorium in Glen Eden, Auckland. 3
