Huia was born on April 8, 1873 in Waiomio.
She was baptised as an adult on her birthday in 1888 at the Church of Latter Day Saints branch in Waiomio.
Also known as Ngahuia, she was known as Kani Mama by her grandchildren. “Huia” is the past tense of “gathering” and “Rui” refers to the chasing away of the spirit from the body lying in state, so some of her family speculate she may have been named or renamed when a family member passed.
She married Poraumati about 1895 in the Bay of Islands.
She died on June 18, 1943 in Waiomio and was buried in the Wairere Cemetery in Waiomio on June 21, 1943.

Hirini Riki Reihana was born on June 29, 1896 in Waiomio. He died on August 20, 1945 in his hometown at age 49.
Taura Reihana was born on February 18, 1898.
Ngaro Puti Reihana was born on May 5, 1898 in Kawakawa. She died about August 15, 1919 at age 21. Records show her married name was Livingstone so it can be assumed she was married before her death.
Haki Reihana was born in 1900 in Waiomio. He died on November 5, 1918 at age 18.
Te Marae Reihana was born on December 20, 1902 in Waiomio. She died on July 16, 1919 at age 16.
Kino Reihana was born about 1904. She died in infancy on September 6, 1905.
Aue Reihana was born about 1904 in Waiomio. He died about 1919 in his hometown at around age 15.
Metekingi Riki Reihana was born on March 23, 1906 in Waiomio. He was christened on June 19, 1906 at the Waiomio Church of Latter Day Saints. He married Maku-Mahurehure Mei (or Muhani) on January 1, either 1951 or 1952. He died on February 22, 1963. He was buried on February 26, 1963 in Wairere Cemetery.
Hare Reihana was born on November 5, 1907 in Waiomio. He died on March 17, 1987 in Kaikohe.
Maraea Cherrington (nee. Reihana) was born on March 16, 1910 in Waiomio. She married Tane-ite-rangi Wiremu Cherrington on April 11, 1928 in Waiomio. They had eight children: Sonny Tane Iterangi Cherrington on April 16, 1929, Te Marae Cherrington on December 30, 1932, Meri Oriwa Cherrington on January 4, 1934, Te Hauhau “Harvey” Cherrington on August 3, 1935, Hoori Cherrington on May 12, 1938 (he died in infancy on May 28, 1938), Miria Cherrington on May 27, 1939, Tuakoi Stuart Cherrington on December 3, 1940, Riki Cherrington on December 27, 1941. Maraea died on September 8, 1939 in Whangarei.
Heni Reihana was born on April 2, 1912 in Waiomio. He died on March 20, 1930 at age 17.
Hokimate Reihana was born on March 15, 1914 in Waiomio. She died in infancy on April 28, 1915 in her hometown.
Riu Reihana was born on October 4, 1917 in Waiomio. She died on February 5, 1933 at age 16.
Riki Reihana was born about 1918 in Kawakawa. He died in infancy in 1919.
Riki Reihana was born on January 9, 1921, named for his brother who died in infancy. He died on November 4, 1993 in Kawakawa.
