Digital technical visualisation & CAD for manufacture
The New Zealand Police Operational Hijab was developed through a collaboration between Massey University and New Zealand Police to create a functional, inclusive uniform option for Muslim officers. I contributed as a digital technical visualisation specialist, brought in by Massey University to address digital draping and 3D construction challenges within the design process. Drawing on my expertise in apparel construction and 3D garment visualisation, I worked to resolve pattern and fabric interactions in CLO3D, helping translate the garment's construction into an accurate and functional digital representation.
From its development through a collaboration between Massey University and New Zealand Police, the Operational Hijab project has achieved recognition beyond its original brief, receiving international publicity and contributing to the broader conversation around inclusive uniform design. Its real-world impact is reflected in the design being adopted by Queensland Police in Australia, while the UK Home Office licensed the design and production specifications for European manufacture for frontline services.
The project was a 2021 finalist in the Best Design Awards – Social Good category, and was recognised by the Project Management Institute of New York as one of the 50 Most Influential Projects globally and the 4th Most Influential Project in the Asia-Pacific region (2021).
